PLAYS WRITTEN
JAHD About the interaction between two peoples, the Hebrews and the Midianites, during the Exodus. The Hebrews attacked and laid waste to the Midianites. Jahd, a Midianite teen, witnesses her family brutally slain before her eyes. She escapes and is discovered in the hills many days later by a clan of Midianite exiles, who take her in and give her a new life.
JULIET’S LATEST A sexually experienced teenage girl imposes a crush on an older man. She is unaware that the man and her big sister are friends. Aided by the sister, he deflects her audacious seductions and tries to teach her about friendship, trust, and non-sexual intimacy.
THE OLD WORLD Set in 2003 San Francisco, it's about a single man and his adopted teenage daughter, who comes to him when her father, his friend, dies. They take in a boarder, a young woman who works for Greenpeace. The teen tries to maneuver her stepfather and the woman together romantically. The man resists, while the three of them become a family. At the end, the boarder is facing fifteen years in prison on trumped-up drug charges. Disturbed by our country’s policies abroad and the erosion of freedom domestically, and to save their boarder, they flee the U.S. to begin a life elsewhere. Part 1 of a trilogy.
ROHTI SEX A transmission received from outer space, about a world where women are the dominant gender, and through a quirk of evolution, men carry the babies. A broad gender comedy, it is narrated by two alien scientists who use short "films" to illustrate the sexual history and mores of their species. Written for two actors, who run backstage to play all the characters in the "films". Wigs and beards and animal costumes fly.
THE PEOPLE Love, and the Nez Perce tribe in war and subjugation. Led by Chief Joseph, the tribe fought one of the most successful wars ever against the white man, defeating or fighting them to a standstill in 12 of 13 battles, and leading them on a 1600-mile chase, being caught just 40 miles shy of the Canadian border. Their fate was then genocide in an alien land, before the remnants of the tribe were returned to the northwest eight years later. The story follows a hunter and the three women he loves, from 1876 to 1886.
CORAL A screenplay which re-imagines the mermaid and vampire mythologies, rooting them in biology, not romanticism. A mermaid and a human fall in love. On a beach, vampires kill him and turn her into the first mermaid vampire. She struggles to adapt, ultimately failing amid tragedy and death.
THE NEW WORLD A sequel to “The Old World” set in a beach house in New Zealand in 2011, where the expatriate family live an idyllic, neo-hippie life. They take in an English painter as a boarder, and deal with love and death and new life in a lush and sensual world. Part 2 of a trilogy.
WAR SONG An ex-pacifist soldier deserts in the closing stages of a losing war, and makes his way home across his war-torn country. He carries the money of a fallen comrade, who asks him to deliver it to his ex-wife and child. Along the way he meets corpses, memories, human hope, sex for sale, and corpses. He searches for love or forgiveness.
AAAARH! In the Caribbean in 1843, the good ship Sea Sable sails into the scene of a great pirate battle, and loses most of its crew. The steadfast Captain Mortimer must sail the passengers through a maze of sinking pirate ships, with boarding buccaneers at every turn. They learn that not all pirates say “aaaarh”; some of them are from Wisconsin and some of them dress like bees. A play for the child in all of us.
